A fundraiser for local food banks, Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on the community level. The 7th annual Caledon-Orangville Empty Bowls fundriaser will take place at the Alton Mill Arts Centre on Sunday, October 16th! Enjoy specialty soup in a handmade bowl of your choosing and keep the bowl!

The first Empty Bowls event was started in 1990 in Michigan and was perceived to be a one-time event. As potters and communities became aware of this simple concept, Empty Bowls expanded and is now an internationally recognized program. In the simplest programs, potters or ceramic artists create bowls and the funds raised from the sale of these bowls goes to local food banks. In our local Empty Bowls we are fortunate to have the support of local restaurants who donate their hearty soups. This means as consumers come out on the day of the event and choose a bowl, they will also receive a bowl of soup. With the event name and the handcrafted bowl comes the awareness that many less fortunate only have an empty bowl. The objective is to raise awareness and to overcome this challenge one bowl at a time!

This event taks place at the Alton Mill on Sunday, October 16th with the luncheon between 11:30 - 2:00 p.m. and dinner between 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Tickets for this event are $35 (which includes the price for your bowl) and can be purchased in person or over the phone with a credit card. We will accept cash, debit, visa or mastercard in person, & visa or mastercard over the phone.

This year we are happy to include a silent auction to help raise additional funds.

We request that consumers bring items to be donated to local food banks; dry food goods or canned goods. These can be dropped off at the Alton Mill Arts Centre during regular hours: Wed-Sun 10-5 between now and the event date.

Can you help with staging, serving or clean up on the day of the event? Are you, or do you know a student looking for volunteer hours?  Please contact Ann for details.
