'Afterglow' Solo exhibition

August 30, 2013

Alton Mill artist Julia Vandepolder's new body of work will be featured in her third solo exhibition, 'Afterglow' at the Telephone Booth Gallery in Toronto. This show runs from Saturday, September 7th until Sunday, October 13th. An opening reception and 3rd Anniversary Party for the gallery will be held on Sat. Sept 7 from 5 - 8pm. All are welcome. Refreshments and food will be served! Artist will be in attendance.

Julia Vandepolder's new series of paintings are a transition from her evocative explorations of collapsing and decaying urban and rural structures to a more self-reflective examination of her immediate surroundings. Her work touches upon themes of change and loss, illumination and transformation. The richly coloured surfaces capitalize on the tension between representation and abstraction. A stillness of her interiors is balanced by the immediacy and raw energy of her brushwork; an artist response through shifting light, shadows and subtle shades of colour.
