Our annual Chef’s Challenge will feature creative tidbits prepared by Soulyve, David’s in Erin, and The Mill Creek Pub. Cast your vote to crown the new winner!

Enjoy performances by soprano Jessica Scarlato, cellist Isaiah Farahbakhsh, Groupe Soulmé drumming, and the Community Living Dufferin Choir.

ARMCHAIRS, AUTHORS & ART

Each fall, Headwaters welcomes some of Canada's best writers for an evening of readings, discussion, book sales and signings, drinks and refreshments.

Join moderator Nicola Ross and authors Don Gillmor (Mount Pleasant – a comic novel about money, real estate and financial expectations), Oakland Ross (The Empire of Yearning – a sweeping tale of competing allegiances, set in 19th century Mexico), Wayne Johnston (The Son of a Certain Woman – a witty and wise coming of age tale set in St. John's, Nfld) and Maureen Jennings (Beware This Boy – a mystery set in Birmingham during the Blitz where a munitions factory has just exploded).

Enjoy refreshments courtesy of The Wine Coaches, Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, Woolwich Dairy, French Press Coffee House and Bistro.

From theatre presentations to gallery shows to cinema and special exhibitions, there are events scheduled in 17 different venues. Here are a few highlights:

• Wichita Lineman:The Music of Glen Campbell – Sept 26 & 29 @ 2pm; Sept. 27 & 28 @ 8pm Tickets: $40, available at Theatre Orangeville
• Monday Night at the Movies – Oct. 7 @ 7:30pm Spring & Arnaud: Art and Mortality, a tender story about Canadian artists Spring Hurlbut and Arnaud Maggs. Tickets: $12, at Booklore, or on film night at  Galaxy Theatres, Orangeville.
• Mad for Madstone Jewellery – Sept. 20, 21, 22 from 10am to 5pm  From NYC to Gallery Gemma , a trunk show of jewels. Meet the designer and try on some pieces. Alton Mill Arts Centre.
• “Inspired Artists” Art Show – Sept 21 from 10am to 4pm, Sept 22 from noon to 4pm Community Living Dufferin.

OPEN STUDIOS: The Hills are alive with creativity

In the Hills of Headwaters there are over 200 artists working in every media imaginable. Painters, potters, glassblowers, woodworkers, weavers, sculptors and jewellers all create here.

And during the Headwaters Arts Festival, their studio doors are open!

See art in action and witness the creative process. Visit century homes, schoolhouses and historic buildings rejuvenated into studio space. Travel the back roads, and take in the spectacular landscapes decked out in fall colours.

Come for a visit and be inspired.

Art Happens at KIDS' ARTS FEST. Come out and give it a go!

Kids' Art Fest is an opportunity for young people to sample the arts and get a taste for dance at Citrus Dance Studio, paint at Maggiolly Art Supplies or with Mark Grice or Andrea Bird at the Alton Mill Arts Centre.

Try photography with Patty Horton, pottery with Ann Randeraad at the Alton Mill or at Pottery Parties in the Hills, beadwork at Dragonfly Arts, chain maille bracelet making at Gallery Gemma, or book creation with Runley Books.

Workshops are presented by working artists. Try something new without committing to a long-term program.

Come out and load the paintbrush, dance the dance, capture the shot, hear the words or manipulate the clay…all in the spirit of creativity.
