Guided Historic Tours

Be immersed in the late 19th – early 20th century history of prosperous village of Alton, where on the banks of Shaw’s Creek local industrialists established as many as 12 different Mills, using the power of the river system. Only one historic Mill of such kind still exists in Canada, only one National Trust heritage building in the whole of Caledon, The Alton Mill, known as the Beaver Knitting Mill, from 1881 became renowned across Canada for its production of fleece-lined long underwear. Learn personal stories behind the prosperous business, find out how the Mill miraculously survived the great Alton flood of 1889, what happened when the mill was struck by a disastrous fire in 1908…

Have a taste of the one-man show theatrical tour by Jay Wilson, actor, storyteller, producer of famous walking tours, coming soon as a ticketed event in the fall.
