Landscape Basics & Drawing Trees Outdoor Plein Air Workshop
Landscape Basics Outdoor Plein Air Workshop:
with CJ Shelton
Sunday, July 9
Our history is etched upon the land ... in this workshop you will learn some of the fundamentals of what makes for a good landscape drawing, including choosing an interesting composition, creating a sense of depth, atmospheric perspective, how to simplify things into basic shapes and deciding what to make a focal point of your drawing.
Recording the world around us through an artistic process invites us into observing the landscape, trees, flowers and rivers, and even ourselves in new ways. The beautiful natural environment of the Alton Mill has ample subject matter to work from, including a variety of plant life, the millpond and dam and the rapids-filled Shaw’s Creek that flows through the property. Each have their own story to tell about how they have played a vital part in the area’s history.
Award-winning instructor CJ Shelton will be right beside you throughout this session, demonstrating tips and tricks for how to draw the natural elements you observe and giving you the benefit of her 40+ years experience drawing.
Bring your own materials: a small sketchbook, pencils, eraser, water bottle and sunscreen as well as a stool, blanket or chair. If it rains, the session will move indoors or under the Annex tent.
PLEASE NOTE: this workshop is best suited to adults but children age 9 and up are welcome (must be accompanied by an adult and registered individually).
Register: $50 plus tax per person
