Signing up for workshops at the Hive encaustic studio is ideal for art enthusiasts that enjoy creating with unconventional mediums and experimenting with different approaches to painting. Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used.
Throughout the months of April and May, the Hive will be offering a variety of workshops such as one or two day workshops, half-day introduction workshops and adult/child workshops. For the Alton Mill's Spring Open House (April 30th & May 1st), the Hive will be offering a workshop, Gravity: A Balanced Relationship, involves creating art by combining mixed media and encaustic techniques with guest artist Christina Lovisa!
