Visit the hive for workshops, encaustic art supplies and to see a wide variety of mixed media encaustic art!

I fell in love with encaustic several years ago, after studying it at OCAD in Toronto, and R&F Encaustics in New York State. This method involves using beeswax hardened with damar resin mixed with oil paint. As a graduate of OCAD, and a member of the Ontario Society of Artists, I have an extensive exhibition history, and am an experienced and enthusiastic teacher. Having given numerous encaustic workshops in other art centres, I am pleased to now have the opportunity to consolidate my teaching activity at the hive encaustic school at the Alton Mill.

For information about my own art, which is for sale at the hive, please visit my artist listing .

I have been leading creative workshops for over 20 years and teaching encaustic since 2002.  I love teaching this medium because it lends itself to experimentation, which allows for a sense of freedom and play in the classroom. I offer on-going five-day, one or two day workshops, and recently added a half-day introduction and an adult/child workshop.  No previous artistic experience is needed for any of my Encaustic 1 Workshops.  Some experience is needed for my Encaustic 2, 3 & 4 workshops, and for Open Studios.  Most of my teaching takes place at the hive in the Alton Mill.  I love teaching at 'the hive'!

NOTE: PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL WORKSHOPS/CLASSES/OPEN STUDIOS!  Dates listed may change, so please check first, via email or phone.

Andrea is an experienced teacher in various media: most recently in encaustic and previously in collage.  For the past 20 years, she has been teaching in various art schools in Ontario and recently in the United States (the Annual Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, Mass. 2008/09/10/11/12) where she specializes on the uses of the iron as a fusing tool.

Over this time, Andrea has introduced over 1500 students to this beautiful medium, and does so with enthusiasm and knowledge.  Many of her students have become teachers themselves, as the 'ball of wax' continues to grow!

High school/college groups can arrange day trips to 'the hive' for an introduction to this playful medium that so many enjoy.
