Why wish on a star when you can wish on a candle! We all know to make a wish when we blow out the candles on our birthday cake. Wishing candles follow pretty much the same principle. Decorating a candle with specific symbols, words, coloured ribbon and other special tokens not only makes a unique gift idea but is a fun activity for welcoming the return of the Sun on the winter Solstice (December 21), the shortest day of the year. What better way to celebrate then by lighting your special candle, making a wish and visualizing it coming true, knowing that as the days begin getting longer again so too will your dreams grow.

Humber River Shakespeare Presents: A Christmas Carol

    Alton Mill Arts Centre

This December, gather with friends and family as five actors bring the timeless tale of greed, ghosts, salvation, and hope to life.

5 Actors. 30+ characters. 1 Trunk. Masks. Music. Puppets.

With a heart locked up tighter than a cash box, Scrooge must encounter the visits by three spirits for the chance to open up his heart and relish in the joys and aspirations of his fellow man.

This adaptation of Dickens' classic tale reawakens the true spirit of Christmas in a heart-stirring Carol of profound beauty and redemption. With Victorian costumes, enchanting masks and an antique trunk of story-telling treasures, five actors transport you from Scrooge's cold bedroom, to Fezziwig's joyful party, the Cratchit's meager table, to the dismal churchyard and the brightness of a Christmas morning fresh with snow.

A heart-warming event for Tiny Tims and Scrooges alike!

SYMBOL QUEST – Create Your Own Personal Power Symbol

    Dancing Moon Designs

In this interactive workshop you will take a magical journey around the Wheel of the Elements with artist CJ Shelton to discover your own unique elemental symbols. Through exploration of their deeper meaning there is potential for change, transformation and deeper insights. Once your symbols have been gathered, you will integrate them creatively into a single mandala or circular design (no artistic ability required). Like a ‘map’ this personal power symbol will be a visual representation of this journey of discovery. We are constantly being offered signs, symbols and synchronicities – clues from the ‘wheel of life’. The trick (and the fun) is deciphering it all!

    Dancing Moon Designs

Take your doodling to the next level! In this special Halloween themed doodle art workshop find inspiration from the ancient pagan legends and customs associated with the origins of ‘All Hallow’s Eve’ when it was believed the ‘veils between the worlds’ were thinnest and all manner of spirits could easily pass back and forth.

Zen doodling is the art of drawing beautiful intricate designs using sections of random patterns to make what are known as ‘zentangles’. When you zen doodle, you’re creating a miniature work of art, but also a mood, a focus and a state of mind.
