ASSISTED LIVING

A Play in One Act by David Laing Dawson

The Story:

Anne, an aging thespian and English teacher, now in her mid eighties and recently widowed, is determined to maintain her independence and stay in the house she shared with Poppy. Her daughter Katherine arrives with groceries and a determination to help, organize, be sensible and plan for the future, only to find her less-than-reliable brother has been there before her.

The Cast:

Starring two old theater friends, Liz Inman and Jo Skilton. Well known to Hamilton theater audiences, Liz and Jo have supported, advised and coached one another, but never have they acted in the same play. This is a first, and it will be a treat to watch these marvellous actors working on the same stage.

The Back Story:

“Following a performance of Here Not There, in which Jo starred alongside Vince Carlin, we four, myself, Marlaise, Jo, and Liz, were sitting in the Artbar, and I listened while Jo and Liz reminisced about their lives in theater, and how they were almost like mother and daughter, but had never acted together on the same stage. And I, a little overconfident from a combination of the applause received for Here Not There, and no small portion of wine, impetuously offered to write a play for them, just for them, as a mother and daughter. And this is it.” - Dawson
